We are moving forward planning and organizing the framework for
the First European TransGender-Council. It remains a work in progress and we
will need each other's co-operation to bring about the first get in touch of
transgenders and friends from all over Europe in a satisfying way.
You will find all information on organisational concerns at the
following page. Please help us to keep the administrative effort on a level
we can cope with: Please read the information at this page and avoid asking
questions on already answered questions. Please avoid asking for our help if
you could manage things by your own. Or course we will support you as far as
possible. But our resources are limited and it's a lot to do.
If you miss any information you need or detect bugs or mistakes
please don't hesitate to get in contact with office@tgeu.net.
We wish you a pleasent stay in Vienna.

You can find good English information on transportation in Vienna
at:
www.wien.gv.at/english/transportation/index.htm
Interactive Vienna Maps with address search and showing public
transport lines can be found at
www.wien.gv.at/stadtplan/suche.asp?lang=en
To look for a hotel or pension using good search-functions we recommend
the multi-lingual website
www.wien.info.
Public transport
To choose convenient locomotion we recommend public traffic.
A pass for public transport valid from 4th to 6th November and
for all public transport lines in town is included in the conference fee. You
will receive it at the registration-desk at the Rosa-Lila Villa.
You will reach all places of the meeting by Underground ( , , , ,
). But you also
can use the Tram (Numbers like "18") or the Bus (Numbers followed
by A like "57A"), especially if you want to see a little bit of the
city.

Stepping into Vienna
Arriving in Vienna by plane

|
|
The Vienna International Airport
is situated about 15 kilometres outside the city.
You can reach Vienna from the airport by
public
train (3 Euro / 25 minutes) and
bus
(6 Euro / 20 to 35 Minutes depending on destination) as well as by the
City-Airport-Train
(9 Euro / 16 minutes) and taxis.
Please click to the map to enlarge it. |
Details could be found on the homepage of
Vienna International Airport.
Regional Railway System ("Schnellbahn"):
S7 (recommended)
We recommend that you follow the train-signs. The railway will
take you to the centre in about 25 minutes. The price for the ticket is 3 Euro
if you buy in advance. Use the ticket machine at the platform.
In most cases it's best to leave the train at [Landstrasse / Wien
Mitte]. There you have connection to
and .
To reach "Kolping Hotel" as well as the "Rosa-Lila
Villa" for registration change to ,
direction [Hütteldorf] and go to [Kettenbrückengasse] / [Pilgramgasse].
Bus
Services: Vienna Airport lines (ok)
The Bus - quicker than the train - takes you to different destinations
in Vienna:
Wien [Schwedenplatz / Morzinplatz]: 20 minutes ( ,
)
Wien [Südbahnhof / Südtirolerplatz]: 25 minutes ( )
Wien [Westbahnhof]: 35 minutes ( ,
)
City-Airport-Train: CAT (not worthy the expense)
Do not take the City Airport Train (CAT) because probably the time
saving of 9 minutes will not be worthy the triply costs.
Arriving in Vienna by train
You will arrive in Vienna probably at "Westbahnhof" ( ,
) or "Südbahnhof"
( [Südtirolerplatz]).
[Westbahnhof] -> "Kolping Hotel" / "Villa":
direction
[Siebenhirten], change at [Längenfeldgasse] to
direction [Heiligenstadt], step off at [Kettenbrückengasse] / [Pilgramgasse].

Arriving in Vienna by car
If you come to Vienna by car, you should take into consideration
that large parts - all inner districts of Vienna (district 1 to 9 and 20), where
the conference-relevant locations are situated - have been turned into short-term
parking zones. Between Monday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (in the first
district 7 p.m.) you need a parking ticket ("Parkschein"), , valuable from 30 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes, which you can buy at any tobacconist.
Fill in the date and time and leave the voucher behind your windscreen.
For more information please look at
www.magwien.gv.at/english/transportation/parking/parkvoucher.htm
The maximum parking duration is 2 hours. One hour of parking costs
80 cents. Apart from some parts of the first district and some main shopping
streets where you could leave your car only for 1.5 hours.
The tariffs for parking garages are varying. There are no parking
garages near to "Kolping Hotel" or "Villa", but there is
one in front of the town hall. Parking area around Kolping Hotel is very limited
especially on weekends.
Home Base

|
|
The home base is placed in the 6th district, close to the
5th district. It's one centre of queer and LGBT culture in Vienna. You
will find a lot of queer and LGBT people and locations there. For more
information please look at the "queer guide" you will get at
the registration.
"Kolping Hotel", "Rosa-Lila Villa" and
"Andino" are placed in a walking distance of about 10 to 15
minutes. Recommended routes are drawn in dark blue at the map.
You also can use the Bus number 57A. Makes sense especially
to reach the "Andino" if you sleep in "Kolping Hotel".
It's marked in light blue at the map.
If you don't want to walk we recommend to take
to go to the "Villa" from "Kolping Hotel": It's just
one station.

Villa: Get in Touch
The TransX-TgEuNet-work-Team is ready to welcome you between 06:00
p.m. and 12:00 p.m at the "Café Willendorf" and in the club-rooms.
In this time you may come whenever you want to get in touch with us, ask questions
or just to chat with other participants. Of course it's the best time to do
registration too.
Besides, the Café has a superb kitchen and we've organised
a special menu with some good value meals.

|
|
The "Rosa-Lila Villa" is the home base of TransX.
Most of our meetings take place there since years.
The house was squatted 1982, at a period of lively dissenting
and autonomous activism. Through negotiations with the city council a
lease agreement with a symbolic rent was achieved. Today the "Villa"
is supported by the City of Vienna.
The main groups of the "Villa" are the "Lila
Tip", a support group for lesbians and the "Rosa Tip",
same for gays. The "Café Willendorf" is a favoured meeting
place of LGBT people.
Furthermore the "Villa" gives shelter for several
groups for periodic meetings. The rooms are provided for free.
|
This location is best to be reached by ,
station [Pilgramgasse]. From there it’s a 50 meter walk.
The "Café Willendorf" is placed at the ground
floor. Please use the entrance at "Spörlingasse",(around
the corner) to come in directly at the registration table.
Andino: TransMission X - 10th TransX-Anniversary
Party

|
|
Saturday night we will celebrate
the 10th Anniversary of TransX. We are very pleased to welcome TransGender-Activists
from all over Europe to this big party.
Each registered participant of the First European TransGender
Council is invited to the party. Your invitation will be handed over at
the registration table.
We are especially happy to welcome some well-known stars,
who are supporting this event by their performance:
We wish you a surprising party. |
The "Andino", is best to be reached by ,
station [Pilgramgasse].
Stepping out of the station you turn left, cross the "Linke
Wienzeile" and enter the "Hofmühlgasse". You follow the
"Hofmühlgasse", crossing "Mollardgasse" and pass the
entry of "Magdalenenstrasse" (at the moment: road works!), until at
your right opens the "Münzwardeingasse". The entrance of the
"Andino" is at the corner straight in front of you.
In Transit
Town Hall: Conference Rooms
The First European TransGender Council will take place in the Vienna
town hall, the "Rathaus". It is located in the heart of the city near
"Ringstrasse", Parliament and "Burgtheater".

| |
The "Rathaus" is best
to be reached by ,
station [Rathaus].
Coming from "Kolping Hotel" you take the at [Kettenbrückengasse], direction [Heiligenstadt] to the next
station, [Karlsplatz]. There you change to ,
direction [Schottenring], until station [Rathaus].
If you want to do a little bit sight seeing you can take
the tram. The lines number 1 and 2 are going round the "Ringstrasse"
in both directions and stop at the town hall at station [Rathausplatz
/ Burgtheater].
|

| |
After leaving the underground-station
the town hall is straight in front of you. Turning right and walking along
the lawn you will find the "Lichtenfelsgasse" on your left hand
south of the town hall. You can't miss the entrance to the town hall,
it's a big door. Turn left and come in. Now you have to pass a smaller
courtyard. When you find yourself between walls again you will see a big
stair. It's the "Feststiege I". Don't go there. Go straight
ahead and cross the big courtyard to the end. There you will find the
"Feststiege II". Go up two storeys and you can see the wardrobe.
One more storey and you've managed to find the First European TransGender
Council.
If you are driving a wheelchair don't enter the building
after crossing the big courtyard but turn to the left. So you can go in
across a ramp. Inside turn to the right and you will reach an elevator
that brings you up. Don't press the buttons [EG] or [HP] or [HS] but the
button [1]. It's a little bit confusing but the real third floor is the
official first floor. Then you can enter the conference rooms from the
backside.
You will find signs with the TG-Council-logo guiding you.
|
Nikisch: Field Trip

|
|
On Friday evening we will take
you to a "Heurigen" and show you a little bit of typical Viennese
culture.
A "Heuriger" is a traditional Viennese tavern.
On the one hand "Heuriger" refers to the wine tavern where wine
is served, on the other hand it is the name used for this year's wine.
It depends on the licence what kind of food may be served,
and there must always be a self-service buffet. Wine, however, is served
to the tables.
Above all a "Heurigen" is a snug place with good
conditions to sit and talk and enjoy the time with each other.
|

| |
This location, "Sieveringerstrasse"
172, is best to be reached by bus, line 39A. You take the bus direction
"Sievering" at the final station of ,
[Heiligenstadt] and ride to the final station. From there it’s a
100 meters walk through the "Sieveringerstrasse" - the straight
one when you step out of the bus - until number 172 at your right hand.
Coming from the Rathaus to go to [Heiligenstadt] you take
at station Rathaus,
direction Schottenring, until the final station. There you change to ,
direction [Heiligenstadt], and ride to the final station.
Coming from the Kolping Hotel to go to [Heiligenstadt] you
best take , direction
[Heiligenstadt], and ride until the final station.

Registration and Conference Fee
Since money is a crucial point for most of us we are trying our
best to limit the costs of both accommodation and conference fee to a modest
level. We will try to offer good quality at reasonable prices and a variety
of possibilities.
The conference fee is
60 Euro for registrations and money transfers up to 19th September,
80 Euro for registrations and money transfers up to 10th October,
100 Euro for registrations and money transfers up to 1st November
and
120 Euro for registrations at the council.
The fee includes participation, drinks, lunch and coffee breaks
during the meeting from Friday to Sunday as well as the entrance to the TransX
10th anniversary party. Participant who book in before 25th
October receive also pass for public transport. The dates of the money transfers
are irrelevant if a later payment was preconcerted with the network team.
Please fill in our registration form and submit your fee to the TransX account (PSK-account
92.087.608, BLZ 60000, BIC: OPSKATWW, IBAN: AT856000000092087608).
Adjusted for persons with minimal financial resources the conference
fee is extremely short measured for covering all costs. We would be grateful
if you could transfer a further solidarity contribution of about 20 to 40 Euros.
Financial Support
Some groups mentioned, that participating in the meeting would
be too expensive for them.
We think it would be very sad if money could be the problem that
keeps groups and persons away of the meeting. We don't want to accept this but
TransX is an organisation with low financial resources. We would like to support
groups and persons from poorer regions but we cannot guarantee that we will
be able to do so. We will have to spend money to organise the meeting and we
can't bear in addition all the costs to give financial support.
We appeal to all richer transgender people and groups: Please try
to raise donations to fund journey and stay for poorer transgenders and groups.
Support the European
Transgener Partnership.
Questions and Answers
We received some mails that raised questions we did not answer
so far. As we think it would be of general interest we want to give general
answers now.
Dress Code
No Dress Code at the Council! It's up to you what to wear - as
you want and feel comfortable!
Translations
Since our budget is limited it will not be possible to organize
professional translators. For this reason we decided that the conference language
will be English.
Nevertheless, if you need translation please tell us. We will do
our best to find friends who speak your language and can guide you and help
your understanding and communication.
Visa
We will help you to get a visa by sending an official invitation
and by giving the guarantees needed.
Participation of friends and relatives
Of course we welcome friends and relatives who want to join the
meeting in solidarity.
Participation of Non-TG-Queer-Activists
We have requests from two countries if we accept non-TG-persons
from the queer community who are dedicated to TG- problems.
As we are planning a TransGender Council the participants should
be TransGender-Activists. But we would make an exception for countries without
TG-representatives. In these cases we will also welcome well-informed persons
who work on transgender-issues.
Participation of teenagers
You are welcome, no special conditions.
Personal data that is not official
Of course we will accept your announcement with the name and civil
status you tell us. Our first demand is the right of free choice of everybody's
own gender identity and of the unlimited expression of gender, including name
and civil status!
We think it will be necessary to show the passport at the hotel/hostel.
But we will do our best to prepare the staff to accept your gender-identity
even if your passport is variant.
Inviting Speakers
The Council should build up an European Transgender Network. Our
aim is to deal with legal issues and political goals and find joint political
claims. Time will be limited and we think it is more important to get a general
overview of the situation in Europe and to discuss what we want to change and
how. It should be rather a working meeting than a consuming congress.
